A tarheel babe from Durham, North Carolina and the 2nd wife of jazz legend Miles Davis (her song "He Was a Big Freak" is based on Miles' sexual predilections), Betty Mabry Davis was a selfstyled 'nasty gal' who took soul music to its next level, pioneering the sound we now call "funk."  Betty was not shy about her sexual appetites and live her stage show was often x-rated.
